Beaurepaires’ Battery Buying Guide

To take the stress out of car battery buying, follow our battery buying guide to ensure you fit your vehicle with the right kind of battery for your car. Buying the right battery is very important for reliable and long-lasting performance. Without the right battery, the electronics in your car may function incorrectly, or not at all.

What size battery is right for your car?

To find out which size battery is required for your vehicle, you should check your car owners manual.

The ‘Car Battery Group Size’ refers to the battery that will best fit your vehicle. It includes the physical dimensions, terminal locations and type required for your car. The battery that is required for your car is generally determined by the vehicle make, model and engine type. The most common Car Battery Group Sizes are 24, 24F, 25, 34, 35, 51, 51R, 52, 58, 58R, 59, and 65.

What’s the best car battery brand?

Choosing a trusted battery brand is important, because without a well-functioning battery…you won’t be going anywhere.

Beaurepaires stock a diverse range of car, 4WD, truck and motorcycle batteries from reputed battery provider, Exide Batteries.

How often should you get your battery tested?

The decline of a battery's performance is gradual, although you usually don’t notice it until it’s too late! To avoid getting stranded, most battery manufacturers recommend that you get your battery tested twice per year.

Weather is usually a factor that affects the life of your battery. If you live in a climate that experiences seasons of extreme hot and/or cold, you should have your battery tested in late autumn, and again in late spring.

Battery maintenance

Lots of our customers ask us for some car battery maintenance tips and it makes sense, because taking good care of your battery will extend its life and save you replacing it sooner than you need to. Here’s some easy things you can do to maintain the health and life of your battery:

  • Turn off your vehicle (and your lights!) - it sounds simple, but whenever your car doesn’t need to be running, turn it off to preserve your battery
  • Keep your battery cool - where possible park in the shade so your battery is not exposed to extreme temperatures.
  • Top up fluids - keep the fluids in your vehicle filled. This will ensure there’s no extra strain on the battery.
  • One hour drive a week - your battery needs to be used regularly to keep it functioning smoothly. A one-hour drive a week is all it takes!
  • Keep the terminals clean - keeping the terminals of your battery clean avoids any corrosion building up, which impacts the performance and life of the battery.

Battery warranties

There are big differences in battery warranties. You want to be sure that should a fault occur, you’re not going to be forking out extra money to replace the battery.

All Exide batteries purchased from Beaurepaires are covered by a comprehensive manufacturer’s warranty, to give you peace of mind. Excide batteries are warranted against any manufacturing fault for the period or kilometres stated on the battery label, whichever occurs first.
